It Should Have Been A Hit

Here's a idea, Lets think about artists and a song that they did that should have been a hit for them.

For example, David Ruffin had a song on his Feelin Good album called Flower Child. If I was Motown I would have put this song out as a single because at the time(1969) the flower power movement was going and this would have been sure hit for David.

What songs do you know by any artist from a album or even a b-side, that would have been a hit but, for whatever reason(politics or whatever) it was never release as a single.

I think another song by David that would of been a hit is "Anything You Ask For" from his "David" album.

Well ... I don't want to overdo the David Ruffin love here -- but his "Break My Heart" deserves to be a big time hit. Dance

On the other hand I was surprised that I had never heard Wilson Pickett's "Wish I Was Back In Your Arms Again" until recently. Wilson and David shared an extraordinary talent for emotional singing.

Main Ingredient's "That's What Fate Will Do" should have been a hit if only for the plain melody and beautiful background harmonies.

Another song that should have been a hit imo is "Wish I'd Never Loved You At All" by Johnny Adams.

I think the Four Tops "I'm In A Different World" should of been a bigger hit. It is my favorite song and I don't undertstand why it wasn't a bigger hit. Fantastic song

Can't forget "Each Day is A Lifetime." In any other realm, that song is a huge hit. Excellent vocal performance and the production makes him sound like he's caught in the tide of the production It almost overwhelms him - and yet he's in total control. Interesting dichotomy and extremely difficult to achieve.

This was an R&B hit. We're talking about songs that weren't hits anywhere.

Did I mention "Morning Sun Looks Blue" by David Ruffin? Cool
"Love Lives On A Windy Hill "The Futures"
"Magnolia" Joe Simon
"Sweet Woman's Love" Geater Davis
"I Just Make Believe (I'm touching You)" J. J. Barnes
I also think that most James Carr's songsl were hit material; he should have been as popular as Otis Redding.
"So Sweet The Love" Jimmy Briscoe & The Beavers

"The Things We Have To Do" Jimmy and David Ruffin Dance Hi DC
"Wish I'd Never Loved You At All" Johnny Adams
"Memories Don't Leave Like People Do" Johnny Bristol

You're welcome Smile Yep, it's a great song, I can see why it wasn't a hit, but it sure deserved to be.

The Four Tops' flip side of Walk Away Rene, "If I Were a Carpenter" should have been the A side.
